Summer Updates

With year-round beautiful sunny weather, it's hard to differentiate summer from any other season in Santa Barbara. The one giveaway is that Isla Vista looks like a ghost town since most of the students have moved back home. The few students that are still here have started their Independence Day celebrations early with fireworks exploding throughout the night every night here.

Here are the latest T&T updates:

Trev was recognized by the PTA at his school with the Trail Blazer Award for Extreme Over Achievement. He received a giant poster and card thanking him for leading the digital yearbook club, filming all of the school plays and events, coaching basketball, football, soccer, and track and field, and facilitating small group work for English learners. How did he follow up this amazing award? By starting a spreadsheet detailing how he is going to double his effort for the upcoming school year :)

I just received a copy of the Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education in the mail. This journal contains my first published scholarly article and I did my happy/touchdown dance in excitement when I saw my name in the print. Here's a description of the article: http://www.iste.org/learn/publications/journals/jdlte-issues/Professional_Learning_Networks_Designed_for_Teacher_Learning.aspx

We are both working full time during summer. I'm working sports camp at the YMCA and Trev is the Assistant Director of the United Way Boys & Girls Club Fun in the Sun program. It's a nice break to be outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. Our weekdays are long, exhausting, and jam-packed busy, so we have been enjoying watching the UEFA soccer cup and olympic trials as a nice wind down when we are at home.

Next up - my sister's wedding on August 11th!! Can't wait!
