We´re Alive!!

So as you may, or may not, have heard our ship (The MS Explorer) sank as of 3pm yesterday. We got a wake up call at about midnight thursday night, didn´t quite know what was going on. I grabbed all of the camera equipment and put on some warm clothes and ran to the emergency station with my lifevest (usually what you do in those drills you have to do once boarding a cruise ship).
Next thing we knew, the captain´s yelling "Abandon Ship, Abandon Ship!" over the loud speaker and we were rushed into lifeboats, dropped down the side (not quite as fun as it seems) and left without a motor or paddles in the freezing cold Antarctic waters.

Anyways, to make the story short (you´ll hear a lot more from us once we return, hopefully this week to the states), after spending 4 bone-chilling freezing hours in lifeboats, we were picked up by a cruise ship, taken to the Chilean Air Force Base on Antarctica, spent the night in cots in the gymnasium, flown to Punta Arenas, Chile on a Hercules C-130 military cargo plane where we were greeted by hundreds of press and had a police escort to our hotel.

The company has taken great care of us. They´ve provided food, clothes, 4 star hotel, they are taking us shopping tomorrow and rescheduling all of our flights. So, once we a back in SD, we will have plenty of crazy stories to retell. But, since we have yet to catch up on sleep from an entire night spent at sea, we will post our stories & pix later (unfortunately my camera´s flash card connector to the computer was still on the boat, but I do have some great sinking ship and lifeboat photos that I will post as soon as I can).

So, no worries. We are okay. However, since we have lost everything except our cameras, we are trying to make it back to San Diego this week (depending on flights). If you need to contact us, please email me at t1trust@gmail.com.
