Pura Vida!!

Sunset over Arenal Lake

Only in Costa Rica...

Can you surf all morning, take a bus ride through the tropical rainforest and watch glowing lava rocks fall down the volcano the same night. Then the next day, wander across the country to view nesting sea turtles and beautiful untouched jungles!!

We finally reached our honeymoon part of the trip (I know...you're probably wondering what the rest of the trip is called), but we spent a week in some very nice hotels in Tamarindo (with our own surf break, pool, and entire bungalow to ourselves!) and Arenal (from our bed we could see the volcano and Arenal lake).

Tamarindo: Unfortunately, I managed to sprain my knee and partially my ankle while slipping on the wet, uneven surface of the street by landing with a jagged rock of concrete slamming into my leg, however, that didn't keep me and Trev from surfing every morning! Trevor even spotted a turtle for me, that I chased after on my surfboard! We surfed 3 different breaks, the last one had very few people, lots of long fun waves, I had a 9 foot board that pretty much caught everything. This was my first trip back in 6 years and the entire town had developed (lots of shopping centers, properties for sale, and hotels popped up out of nowhere!) Still it was a fantastic place to relax, surf, and enjoy the sunsets.

Arenal Volcano: We watched beautiful sunsets over Arenal Lake and all night long we could see the glowing red hot lava fall down the volcano. We stayed in Arenal Observatory Lodge, very isolated, but a fantastic view of the volcano and surrounded by tons and tons of acres of pristine forest. Also...we saw a FUR-DE-LANCE (only the second deadliest snake in the world). One of the workers caught it in a bush nearby our room and we watched them take it off to the serpent zoo (9 foot long snake!).

Tortuguero: After some troubles with transportation, we were taken in a private taxi to our destination, before boating to Tortuguero. We even saw a 3 toed sloth on the way! We went on a night hike to watch huge Green Turtles nest on the beach. These turtles were over 200 pounds. They crawled up the beach, dug a hole, laid 100-180 eggs, covered them up and left (all in about 2 hours). We also went on a 3 hour canoe tour and saw tons of spider monkeys and birds.

Pictures will be updated when we can find an internet place that will let us use flickr (hopefully tomorrow) :)
