Holiday Wrap-Up

Goleta Beach
Moving to a new place and getting use to the local rhythm can be difficult, but Santa Barbara has been very welcoming. At UCSB, my faculty advisor is wonderful (he even gave me a chance to provide feedback about his course, Advances on Learning Sciences, and present my K-12 Tech Tools wiki during a 3-hour lecture on using technology as a learning tool), the 2nd-8th year students in my program have been very helpful in learning the ropes of the Ph.D. program, and I joined a graduate student coed intramural soccer league (we won the championships!).

Trev continues to amaze his colleagues with his knowledge of technology and resources. The fun part about Goleta is that every time we go to a UCSB athletics event, shopping, or out to dinner, we always seem to run into one of Trev's students or a teacher from his school.

UCSB vs. SDSU Men's Basketball
We've continued to explore Isla Vista, Goleta, and Santa Barbara. Living only 6 blocks from the beach has its advantages as well (running on an isolated beach is a great workout). We also attended the San Diego State vs. UCSB basketball. UCSB had the lead for the majority of the game, SDSU tied it in the last second, and ended up winning by one point in overtime. In November, we joined my dad, Myrna, Kim, and Mark Embree for the 15th annual San Diego Komen Race for the Cure. We got stuck in the back of the immense crowd, but enjoyed a nice walk around balboa park and up the 163 hwy.

We are preparing for the holidays, where I will be working Toy Camp at the Natural History Museum and Trev will be enjoying a nice break from school. We will also be visiting San Francisco for Christmas and San Diego for New Years.

Happy Holidays! Have a safe, healthy, and relaxing holiday break.
