Spring is in the Air!

Lily enjoying the Cherry Blossoms

The Spring weather in DC seems to be more unpredictable than Fall (sunny/warm) or Winter (sunny/very cold). We've had thunderstorms with lots of lightning, hail storms, plenty of rain, 80 degree days followed by 30 degree days, and lots of wind.

Trev and I have been enjoying our free time by exploring DC and participating in some fun events.

St. Patrick's Day Race
We ran a St. Patrick's Day 5k (Amazing Race style) sponsored by my gym. We were given a map and had to find clues all over downtown DC. We even had to run through the opening day March Madness crowds at the Verizon Center. We returned to our apartment to find the first blooming Cherry Blossom tree outside our front doors and it was beautiful!

Kickball
We also joined a kickball league with games every Sunday on the National Mall. Trev was the all-star of the season. He made matrix-style catches and scored many runs. We made it to the championship game this past weekend and beat the defending champions 9-2 and ended up with a huge trophy.

Cherry Blossoms
We are fortunate to be living in one of the few places in the world that has Cherry Blossom trees. DC has been exceptionally crowded lately with all of the tourists enjoying the 3-week Cherry Blossom Festival. According to the official National Cherry Blossom Festival website, "The National Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington, DC. The gift and annual celebration honor the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan and the continued close relationship between the two countries."

We spent time photographing the cherry blossoms around the Washington Monument and the Tidal Basin. Below are some of our photos. To see the entire slideshow: click here.
