The Galapagos!
After another cancelled flight that LAN failed to tell us about, we booked a flight out a day later to the Galapagos. Our 2 hour layover in Lima turned into a 7 hour layover, but all in all, we finally met up with my Dad in Quito and headed to the Galapagos sunday morning.
The day we arrived in the Galapagos, nothing was open in Puerto Ayora. However, we spent plenty of time searching for finches to take photos of and visiting all the Giant Tortoises in the Darwin Research Station. The next day, we booked a 3 day tour for the cheapest possible price.
We spent those 3 days on the rough (and I emphasize rough!) seas around Santa Cruz Island. Our typical day involved an early morning walk, snorkeling, afternoon hike, more snorkeling, and time on the boat as it moved to the next spot to visit. Other than a little bit of seasickness and flooded bathrooms with toilets that flushed once a day if lucky, our cheap tour turned out to be a ton of fun and we saw tons of amazing animals.
